Course Overview

Service Design has become the new frontier for designers who want to make a difference at scale, and in so doing advance the discipline of design. The service sector represents almost 80 percent of the advanced economies, and in recent years the role of design in transforming both public and private sector services has become widely recognised. The programme at the Royal College of Art is the leading specialist service design programme worldwide and with around 80 students and researchers and 10-12 live projects at any time, it's almost certainly the largest dedicated service design studio globally.

The Service Design MA's overarching goal is to enable graduating students to engage at a strategic as well as an operations level in the design of services, potentially leading interdisciplinary design teams in the design and deployment of innovative services in the business, consumer and public sector. Building on Design London's collaboration between the RCA and Imperial College London, the core design-based courses at the RCA is complemented by faculty from Imperial College's Department of Computing and Business School, who will provide an introduction to - or enhance - students' technical skills in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as well as business skills such as strategy, organisational behaviour and innovation management.
