The Fujairah 1 Independent Water and Power Plant is the largest operating hybrid desalination plant in the world with a power capacity of 893 megawatts and a seawater desalination capacity of 100 million imperial gallons or 455,000 cubic metres per day. The hybrid seawater desalination plant employs a combination of Multi-stage Flash and Reverse Osmosis technologies.

The facility is owned by “Emirates SembCorp Water & Power Co - ESC” which is 60% owned by “Union Power Holding Company” a unit of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and 40% owned by “SembCorp Gulf Holding Co Ltd” (Singapore), a unit of Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries Ltd.
