JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep functional expertise on Quality Control (QA), and particularly in relation to technical material & weld integrity. An SME in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) for assuring that structural components and systems perform their function in a reliable and cost-effective manner by defining and implementing nondestructive tests that locate and characterize material conditions and flaws that might otherwise cause failure or undesirable quality variability. Also, an SME in Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) for determining quantitative material properties, such as fracture toughness, formability, and other physical characteristics or defect such as its size, shape, and orientation. Provides the technical & technological problem-solving ability and oversight to lead a team of NDT Supervisors (Technicians) to execute these tests and evaluations.
Also, responsible for executing the QC & QA section strategy in close co-0ridonation with Operations, within Marine Business (or Offshore as an when required)

Accountabilities

• Establishes and Review of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) procedures Periodically.
• Prepare Nondestructive Testing (NDT) plan as per the project requirements and the class requirements.
• Review the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) reports prepared by the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) technicians.
• Prepare the repair rate report and forwards to the QSA Manager.
• Assign Nondestructive Testing (NDT) technicians to perform Nondestructive Testing (NDT) work as per the plan.
• Responsible to effectively communicate the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) status, general welding performance and the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Technician’s performance.
• Monitor the progress of Nondestructive Testing (NDT), repair activities, etc.
• Review of project specifications and qualifications of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) technicians according to requirements.
• Review technical specifications, and standards required in the project and preparation of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Procedures as required by the project specification for the bidding and for the projects.
• Co-ordinate with appointed Nondestructive Testing (NDT) level III at all levels for guidance and enhance Nondestructive Testing (NDT) training programs.
• Coordinating and ensuring all NDT and final inspection are carried out as per approved ITP / Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) plan or other documents required by the project.
• Liaises with section/&Project engineers to coordinate inspection & testing activities.
• Schedules Nondestructive Testing (NDT) inspection and test daily coordinating "hold point" witnessing by Client and Surveyor.
• Monitor overall qualification status of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) personnel required as per company’s written practice
• Ensure parts and material are inspected and measured without damaging & provide a balance between quality control and cost effectiveness.

Accountabilities - 2
• Ensure effective and optimal use of both NDT technologies and the most basic NDT method of visual examination. From simply looking at a part to see if surface imperfections are visible, to using computer-controlled camera systems to automatically recognize and measure features of a component.
• Radiography (RT) – uses penetrating gamma or X-radiation on materials and products to look for defects or examine internal or hidden features
• Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)- uses technology induce a magnetic field in a ferromagnetic material and then dusts the surface with iron particles (either dry or suspended in liquid) to disrupt the flow of the magnetic field within the part and force some of the field to leak out at the surface and reveal faults.
• Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – uses technology to emit high frequency sound waves transmissions into a material to detect imperfections or to locate changes in material properties
• Penetrant Testing (PT)- coats objects with a solution that contains a visible or fluorescent dye, where excess solution is then removed from the surface of the object but is left in surface breaking defects.
• Leak Testing (LT) - Leaks are detected by using electronic listening devices, pressure gauge measurements, liquid and gas penetrant techniques, or simple soap bubble tests.
• Review the material certificates certified by authorities to ensure that the supplied good or service meets the required specifications i.e. material's chemical & physical properties (steel, aluminum, brass or other alloys) is compliant with an international standards organization specific standard such as American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) etc.
• Inspect incoming material integrity and evaluate the effectiveness vendor based on the material delivered. Ensure that any required corrective action is taken to enable business continuity through supply chain delivery.
• Review sub-contractor welder certificates that are provided by the Contracting Dept. to ensure they meet the applicable code and specification.
• Liaise with project managers to review the new requirements in the project and to prepare the procedure, Inspection and Test Plan (ITP), Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Plan, Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) & Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) requirements.
