Course details:

This MA Acting instils a thorough applied knowledge of the actor's craft, develops the ability to embody and express classical and contemporary plays and playwriting, explores current trends in theatre, screen, and other modes of performance, and develops a sense of purpose, allowing the actor to be both material and maker.

During this course, you will focus on a range of acting techniques, skills classes, and research. Rehearsal, performance projects and ensemble work; all helping you develop your creative abilities as an actor. This postgraduate course encourages you to develop skills required by the realist style: multi-layered characterisation, recognising the subtle rapport between text and subtext, being ‘private in public'; as well as exploring expression on a large scale and engagement with the audience, necessary for both intimate and epic performance.

The course has an historical relationship with the world-famous Boris Shchukin Institute (with a direct pedagogical lineage to Stanislavski), and currently the actors spend a term learning the Vakhtangov approach at the Institute in Moscow

During the London-based part of the course, you will work intensively to develop your craft with an experienced core team of teachers and directors. There will also be opportunities to work with visiting companies and practitioners, and to collaborate creatively with students from other disciplines. The course culminates in Public shows followed by a Professional Industry Showcase.
