Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities:
• Operates Avaya Digital Switch Console and provides centralized attendant services
• Operates Directory Assistance Call Accounting System
• Maintain log file of all telephone calls for all overseas operator assisted calls
• Acts as receptionist, greeting and assisting callers by referring to sources of information, and responding to request for factual information by consulting various available sources
• Does overhead paging when requested to do so by appropriate staff for appropriate reasons
• Understands the emergency codes of the organization and understands and executes the switchboard operator procedures when called upon to do so
• Handles, distributes and follows procedures for distribution and replacement of pagers
• Knows how to page personnel and follows process to do paging
• Understands that a switchboard operator may be critical to getting emergency care to a patient and would never leave the station unattended
• Can operate emergency mobile phones and knows procedures for when to use
• Inserts and extracts materials form subject-matter files, classifies material by nature of subject matter, and prepares new file folders and updates current folders (paper and electronic) as needed
• Types data on a word processor from an established group of source documents, using standard references in a prescribed order and/or format for entry into data processing system, standard CRT, or personal computer
• Maintains control records or logs of the activities of a unit including work received, status of work in progress, work completed, and renewal actions required; prepares statistical summaries of the work activity of the unit
• Searches and retrieves computer file information using a computer terminal (CRT) or personal computer

Requirements

Qualifications Required:
• Prior experience (3 months minimum) as a Switchboard Operator
• Basic knowledge of hospital operations and communication systems
• Knowledge of paging systems and radio communications
• Basic computer skills
• Polite and friendly telephone skills
• Able to hear and speak fluent English
