Contracts / Claims Manager - Rail

The Highfield Company

Cairo, Egypt

Ref: KP700-1156

Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Contracts / Claims Manager – Mono-Rail – Cairo, Egypt

Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling and buzzing capital city, set on the Nile River, is one of the largest cities in Africa, with a population of over 20 million people in its metropolitan area.

As you can imagine, TRAFFIC IS BAD! It already has one of the world’s busiest metro systems, but clearly the city needs a better, more environmentally friendly, fast-moving people-transporter!

And that’s where you come in!

The Egyptian people are building a state-of-the-art Monorail system for the cool price of US$4.5 Billion – the first line is 43 kms and the second line is 54 km. The first line is set for completion by the end of 2022, the second by April 2023. This mass-transportation system has some exciting features – the vehicles are autonomous and driverless, the structure is a light-weight aluminum (making it go faster!), it’s got plenty of space for those with special needs, it has LCD screens, so passengers know where they are!

And they need YOU to help oversee the contract management of this project. If you get involved in this project, you will be impacting on the lives of a million people who will use the monorail in their daily lives. AND you will be helping to make Cairo a cleaner, more eco city!

Salary:
USD 12000 per month inclusive of fixed allowances.

Requirements

Reporting into the Project Director, a charismatic, technically strong person who has passion and energy, you will be in charge of all the contractual documentation across this mega scheme. There is a lot of complex structures and elevated sections that need to be built correctly, a huge amount of rail systems – safety and communications – that also is a challenge.

But with your previous skills and experience handling contractual paperwork on metros or elevated Light Rail schemes, you’ll already know this! You’ll have great knowledge of FIDIC, you’ll be adept at handling disputes and arbitration, you’ll have a great deal of skill in the contractor payment process.

As well as being involved in one of the world’s most exciting, challenging urban rail schemes, you will also be part of a great multi-cultural team, you’ll be working for a global leader who can give you long term opportunities around the world and you will have a great deal of autonomy and freedom to do the role as you see fit.

The package on offer is good for Cairo – an economical place to live and work – ranked 126th out of 209 of the world’s major cities – so the package on offer can give you a very comfortable lifestyle and leave enough to save or send back to your home country. The package on offer is US$144,000 per annum gross (coving all elements), which after Egyptian income tax is net around 9,200 USD per month.

You’ll need to have the following to be considered for the role:
• You MUST be degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or similar
• You MUST have minimum 10 years post-graduate relevant working experience, with at least 5 of these on Metro, Rail or Light Rail / Monorail
• You MUST be available to start work in Cairo within 1 month of accepted offer
• Strong on contracts management from the PMC perspective, including claims, disputes and arbitration.

It’s a pretty impactful opportunity for the right person, so please get in touch and we can discuss in more detail.
