Organization

Workshop section Heads directly report to the General Manager and Operations Manager

Directly controls the
• Shipyard activity - (Yard, workshop & offshore).
• Other local shipyard projects – site work

And coordinate Ship Repair Engineers, Workshop Sections Heads, QHSE Manager.

Summary:
Successfully manage the Technical/Engineering department, plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practices including a variety of complex features, such as; conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements.

Requirements

Responsibilities of position:
These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
1. Manage technical personnel, leading project design teams.
2. Oversees the design or develops engineering drawings including plans and
specifications based on calculations; checks, interprets and revises engineering
drawings.
3. Requisitions components and supplies of engineering projects, interacting with
vendors to obtain price and product information.
4. Estimates budget for each project including cost of personnel and materials.
5. Performs research relating to each specific project; writes documentation and manuals.
6. Coordinates with other project group members and supervisor on design problems.
7. Writes specifications for purchase of new equipment.
8. Supervises, schedule, assign, and coordinates or monitors activities of engineers,
drafters, technicians and others who assist in specific assignments.
9. Ensures proper distribution of assignment and adequate manning for subsequent
performance of duties

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Technical Section Head shall provide direction, monitoring and daily management for engineers and designers.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Individual should have strengths in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
2. Knowledge of Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering
3. Knowledge of design applications.
4. Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related discipline.
5. Skill in applying engineering principles and procedures.
6. Skill in engineering design applications.
7. Strong interpersonal skills
8. Ability to perform design integration on complex projects
9. Excellent communication skills, strong leadership skills and an ability to gain
credibility across all levels of the business are essential.
10.Knowledge of AutoCAD would be an advantage
11. Ability to effectively communicate

Minimum Qualifications::
Minimum qualifications shall be as follows:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
Experience in Civil or Structural engineering design, including previous experience of marine structures or related experience
A minimum of 5 (and preferably 10) years of experience in a managerial role.
