Job Description: Instructor / Trainer in Logistics

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role

The role holder will join ACK’s School of Aviation delivering a brand new Diploma of Logistics program to student enrolled on both block and semesterised schedules. The position will initially be for a period of two years with a possibility of extending long-term. Within the first period of the program, teaching will be on the new 12 month intensive Diploma of Logistics with lessons every weekday for approximately 44 weeks in the 52 weeks period starting September 2018.

The post holder will be expected to:
• Teach in an area relevant to logistics and supply chain management to the provisions of the curriculum provided
• Engage in curriculum development and design
• Liaise with and follow the requirements of any external bodies involved in the running of the program
• Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with teaching and learning policies.
• With support to design and deliver high quality, innovative and challenging learning experiences, utilising using current theory and practice together in lively debate.
• With support to undertake associated activities in connection with the courses taught including, personal tutoring, recruitment, assessment, review and evaluation.
• To contribute to the student experience – demonstrating an awareness of the need for ‘customer focus’ in respect of resolving issues.
• To conduct research and scholarly activity of relevance to the instructor role and / or professional practice and aligns own research with teaching and learning.
• To engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context.
• To deliver pastoral care and project supervision of students.
• With support to plan and deliver the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of IT.
• To provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
• To engage in professional development activities (e.g. CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
• To maintain and foster the high reputation of the College in practice partner settings.
• Any other such reasonable duties as required by the Head of Department.

Requirements

Attributes Essential Advantageous

Education/Qualifications:
• Must have a postgraduate degree in Logistics or relevant field such as Supply Chain Management;
OR
• If from Professional practice background, hold a Bachelor Degree and an appropriate professional qualification such as a Postgraduate Diploma or PG Certificate and/or membership of a relevant professional body.
Postgraduate degree in a subject relevant to Aviation.

• Active membership or fellowship of a relevant professional body
• Recognized teaching qualification

Knowledge and Experience:
• Have at least TWO years industrial/field/operational/teaching experience in Logistics and/or Supply Chain Management.
• Must have relevant and reasonable experience in any of the following areas within the specialism of Logistics: Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Warehousing, Inventory Management, Transport Operations, Humanitarian Logistics, and Project Management.
• Must be eligible for Chartered Member status of CILT (CMILT) or at minimum Member grade (MILT)
• Should have a train the trainer qualification and/or be willing to take the CILT introductory course
• Experience of working in the Armed Forces
• Experience of working abroad or working in a multicultural environment.
• Some experience of teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level
• Recent teaching experience at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes.
• Experience in the aviation industry
• Evidence of good/innovative pedagogic practice Mastery of Subject Matter
• Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
• Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
• Connect their subject matter with related fields.
• Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations.
• Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate Teaching Performance
• Teach a course load appropriate to their field or discipline.
• Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
• Commitment to participating in excellent pedagogical practice to ensure outstanding student experience
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
• Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the internet, interactive technology, when appropriate.
• Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
• Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives.
• Incorporate core competencies into curriculum.
• Develop, update, and post course syllabi in a timely manner.
• Ability to foster employability embedded teaching and learning through engagement with external contacts and organizations in industry wherever possible.
• Have an ability to engage, enthuse and relate to students with diverse backgrounds, ages and experience
• Employ effective oral and written communication skills in both individual and group situations.
• Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
• Evidence of successful external networking and profile-raising.
• Some administrative and organisational experience, related to course development or equivalent if from non-academic
• Logistics background
• Ability to teach other subjects within the School of Aviation
• Evidence of mentoring others by disseminating own ‘good practice’ effectively to others and of reflective practice by taking up ‘good practice’ from other sources into own work.
• Evaluation of Student Learning
• Design appropriate assessments.
• Must be able to set exams including development of exam papers and marking schemes
• Be able to realize meaningful learning outcomes for units/programs.
• Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes.
• Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades as required Interpersonal Skills
• A commitment and enthusiasm for excellent teaching and learning within the College.
• Effective oral and written communication skills to officials and stakeholders in both individual and group situations
• Ability to lead, and work as a member of, a team or group
• Experience working abroad.

A 2+2 course is available whereby students obtain their diploma in two years and can then continue, if they wish, to study for a further two years to obtain their degree. This arrangement is unique in Kuwait.
