Abu Dhabi construction sector wages soar 17%

Latest annual figures also show the average monthly wage for an Indian construction worker rose 40% to $490

New figures released by the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD) show that wages in the construction sector have increased by 17.4 percent in the 12 months to July 2015.

The National reported that just under a quarter of workers in the emirate are employed in the construction sector, while across the UAE, one third of the workforce is employed in construction.

Salaries in the construction sector grew almost half the national average rate of 6.2 percent in the UAE, according to data from online recruitment portal, Gulf Talent.

The data also suggests that the wages in the construction sector in the UAE grew by 7.8 percent, with surveyors earning the biggest increase in hourly wages (AED25, up from AED22 the previous month).

The National also reported that the average monthly wage for an Indian construction worker was $490 (AED1,800) in March, up from $350 (AED1,200).
