POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Information Services Librarian for Scholarly Communication, The incumbent oversees the evening and weekend Circulation and Reference duties, and assists patrons in the use of the Library resources and equipment.

POSITION ACTIVITIES

1. Oversee the day-to-day circulation desk duties, include checking in and out materials to patrons, registering new patrons and managing patron holds and overdue.
2. Coordinate the annual Library Book inventory includes shelf reading, Sierra record update and withdrawals.
3. Manage the Course Reserves records in Sierra to provide a seamless, timely service to WCM-Q faculty and students in collaboration with the supervisor, Information Services librarians and eAccess Services staff.
4. Provides statistical reports for gate count, Circulation and Course Reserves.
5. Help patrons with Ready-reference questions, and database searching using virtual and traditional reference service as applicable.
6. Participate in promoting the Library outreach events and functions, includes Library Open House, PreMed and Med orientations, Medical Unlimited event.
7. Assist in Library accreditation, includes gathering needed documentations, room booking, Hikmah registration system.
8. Participate in and support library liaison activities, as needed, by providing instruction or course support on circulation or ILL matters through the creation of web pages or via the Canvas learning management system.
9. Serves as backup for website content update.
10. Performs other, similar duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• A bachelor degree, or technical school with related course work or combination of equivalent education and experience.
• Three years of related experience and/or training.
• Experience with software applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, PDF Creation software and similar programs.
• Working knowledge of library methods and procedures.
• Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
• Possess excellent organizational skills, effective communication skills and excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to comprehend and follow instructions: effectively follow instructions from supervisor, verbally and in written form.
• Time management: set priorities in order to meet assignment deadlines.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

• A degree in Library and Information Science is preferred.
• Experience in a health sciences or academic library.
• Experience with demonstrating library resources.
• Willingness to maintain skills in above-mentioned areas through active participation in appropriate library professional development activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• The work is performed in a modern office environment.
• Evening and weekend hours are required.
• Some bending and lifting (up to 20kg) may be required.
• Service provision could require crossing distances within the building to respond to requests for assistance.
• At least 70% of the work is performed sitting at a computer terminal.
