Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. This may include fabricating, operating, installing, or repairing design products such as motors, instruments, control panels, and other machines. Other engineering functions will fall under the direction of the Mechanical Engineer on a project-by-project basis. A background in Automobile engineering would be an asset.

Responsibilities:
• Applies basic engineering concepts and principles during the design and development of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and optical instrumentation and equipment. This includes the production of technical drawings and specifications. This position utilizes 3D Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) software for the design of instruments and equipment.
• Assists supervisor during discussions with staff scientists, engineers, instrument makers, and technicians to determine the instrument and equipment specifications.
• Assists in the fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing during the development of instrumentation.
• Maintains the SolidWorks PDM vault or equivalent and performs duties as the SolidWorks Administrator.

Requirements

• University degree in Automobile Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of direct work experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and other 3-D imaging software is essential.
• Solid background in machine design as it relates to switches, valves, motors, panel wiring, cylinders, and so on.
• Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
• Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
• Ability to identify key financial performance indicators and their relationship with project indicators.
• Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
• Advanced skill with hand tools and hands-on assembly of mechanical, optical, and electrical hardware used in the development of instrumentation.
