Job description / Role
Objectives: Manage McDonald’s food supplies on a day to day basis to achieve the Company objectives in terms of pricing and logistics. Established McDonald’s quality standards with the distribution center and suppliers to ensure all products delivered to McDonald’s are most suitable quality, at the most competitive price and are delivered on time.
Main responsibilities:
- Identifies relevant McDonald’s business drivers for given product category
- Identifies key competencies that need to be developed for, or added to, the product supplier base
- Evaluates analyses and negotiates with suppliers to achieve most competitive prices
- Has responsibility for the operation of the Distribution Center (DC) to provide lowest cost, best quality and consistently high-level service to all McDonald’s restaurants
- Utilizes logistics and packaging expertise to purchase the most cost effective food and packaging items with the McDonald’s system of approval suppliers
- Provides direction and is responsible for implementing McDonald’s quality program with the distribution center (DC) and suppliers
- Agrees quantities, timescales and price indications with suppliers; and provides suppliers with product schedule and delivery timeline
- Coordinates with Quality Assurance to ensure that supplier meets McDonald’s quality standards
- Provides support to Marketing Department on sourcing, production, storage, and distribution of promotional material and marketing related materials
- Builds strong relationships and fosters teamwork among department, agencies, suppliers and staff to achieve maximum performance
- Encourage McDonald’s suppliers to support the brand and the McDonald’s charities through relationship building and communication
- Determines pricing protocol for products/suppliers based on market reviews, competitor positions, supplier financials, etc.
- Fully understands supplier cost structures and logistics costs. Is able to identify value added opportunities for McDonald’s as appropriate
- Provides monthly updates to relevant parties on key costs and expenses related to purchasing
- Has a good understanding of current trends in pricing and is able to forecast accurate food and paper cost and recommend appropriate actions when trends are adverse
- Identifies opportunities for cost savings, supplier reviews and profitability improvement during the 3-1-Q process
- Assists in the sale of premium items to other countries at best price; coordinates the transfer and payment for items
- Identifies ways to manage a crisis without compromising food safety and food quality
- Develops contingency plans, including supplier and source alternatives, to effectively manage crisis situations
- Understands the crisis management communication process as it affects purchasing
Requirements
University Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent
Nature and length of previous experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role
