Our client is a global provider of power transformers and rotating electrical machines with global operations based in Romania. Continued market growth has created this opportunity with our client who are a subsidiary of a renowned Saudi business conglomerate with global operations. Our client now seeks to appoint a General Manager for their Transformers Division to manage the transformers business unit. This role is responsible to oversee the overall operations of the Transformers Business Unit ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the Business Unit functions and developing and implementing the divisional strategies, policies and practices to support the fulfilment of the Company’s mission and objectives. This role oversees the smooth and successful operation and ongoing strategic development of the Transformers Division in terms of Budgeting, Engineering, Planning, Logistics and Delivery, Production, Operations, Quality, Sales, Service and Maintenance.

Reporting to the CEO and managing 13 direct reports and 450 indirect reports, the proven performer we seek will be responsible for the following:

• Manage and develop the firm’s budgeting, business plan and strategy for roll out operationally to ensure the transformers division achieves company goals for the overall operations and maintenance of the division;
• Evaluate BU performance and recommend new strategies for performance improvements;
• Management of the firm’s operations including sales, planning and production, quality and engineering.
• Manage growth of the company’s products through investment, expansion and upgrade of technology and process management.
• Assist in employee recruitment, performance evaluation, promotion, retention and termination of contract activities;
• Establish group and individual accountabilities across assigned departments for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc basis, dependent on need.
• Improve manpower utilization within existing departments and processes.
• Product development including research and development, engineering and technology advancements.
• Manage expenditure against budget and relative to changes in production volume.
• Work to establish management practices across assigned areas which include all employees’ positive involvement with opportunity for construction input and action.
• Maintain individual skills keeping up-to-date with latest production and production management concepts.

Requirements

• Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or comparable with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience in the transformers industry and 5-years’ experience in a management position.
• Candidates must possess experience in managing teams of 400+ staff in a production area.
• Strong technical expertise in the field of transformers with strong sales and marketing vision and acumen.
• We seek executives who have worked in large customised transformer manufacturing companies such as generation transmission distribution power plants, wind farms and substations.
• Strategic and analytical thinker with superior leadership skills, communication skills; negotiation abilities.
• Excellent organizational and planning abilities with a strong attention to detail.
• Proven problem solver in the achievement of deadlines and targets.
• Language skills: fluent in English (written and verbal) is a must; knowledge of Romanian is a plus.
