Employment: Full Time

About the Position:
This role is responsible for the day to day running of the spectroscopic analytical equipment in the Sipchem Technology and Innovation Centre in support of R&D projects and activities. The role will ensure capable of timely analysis for R&D projects on polymer and chemicals products through establishing analytical methods and ensuring that the data provided are precise and accurate. Through coordination with the R&D Support Services Group instrument preventative maintenance, calibration, repairs, and performance verifications are carried out to the required schedule.

Major Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Ensure efficient operation of the centre’s analytical equipment including NMR, ICP-OES, FTIR / NIR, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer (advanced interpretation of NMR data is not required).
- Support for GC & HPLC, GPC, DSC, TGA, SEM, auto-titrators, and others would be an advantage.
- Development and verification of methods (SOPs) for polymer and chemicals products analysis.
- Give training to colleagues on experiment methods and maintaining training and qualification records.
- Management of the laboratory upkeep, hygiene routines, EHS, and tidiness.
- Identify needs for typical analyses of Sipchem products and maintain the necessary laboratory supplies of equipment accessories, consumables, reagents, and technical gases.
- Coordinate with the R&D Support Services Group to ensure that the preventative maintenance program and the calibration of laboratory equipment is carried out effectively and on time.
- Provide general chemistry and precise and accurate analytical support to Sipchem R&D projects.
- Management of laboratory waste within Sipchem standards.
- Train and develop junior staff in analytical methods and equipment setup.
- Ensure project experimental data are recorded, filed, and reported in accordance with the Sipchem R&D standards.

Requirements

About the Candidate:
- Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, or Analytical Science subject (not M.Sc. or Ph.D.)
- 7 years industrial experience with laboratory analytical instruments.
- 7 years of industrial analytical chemistry methods.
- Has worked in an industrial analytical laboratory.
- Experienced with the set-up and operations of analytical instruments such as NMR, ICP-OES, FTIR / NIR, UV-VIS, Spectrophotometer, and others.
- ISO 17025 and 9001 experience would be an advantage.
