Computer Programmer

Job description / Role

Purpose: Designs, develops, tests and implements software for clients to improve business efficiency and productivity. Creates and modifies computer programs by converting project requirements into code.

Job Responsibilities / Duties:
- Developing new software applications in partnership with business analysts and technical architects
- Upgrading existing software as the user organization’s needs change
- Localizing software products for different international markets
- Testing software to ensure the code is correct, fixing ('debugging') errors where they occur, and rerunning and rechecking the programme until it produces the correct results
- Working with trainers and technical writers to develop user support materials
- Confirms project requirements by reviewing program objective, input data, and output requirements with analyst, supervisor, and client.
- Arranges project requirements in programming sequence by analyzing requirements; preparing a work flow chart and diagram using knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, programming language, and logic.
- Encodes project requirements by converting work flow information into computer language.
- Programs the computer by entering coded information.
- Confirms program operation by conducting tests; modifying program sequence and/or codes.
- Prepares reference for users by writing operating instructions.
- Maintains historical records by documenting program development and revisions.
- Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Ensures operation of equipment by following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree Master Degree from an accredited college in computer science, information systems.
- At least 3-5 years of IT Software Programmer experience
- Mathematical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent IT and programming skills

- Accuracy and attention to detail
- An understanding of the latest trends and their role in a commercial environment

Physical Requirements:
- Software programmer will have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
- Frequent sitting for extended periods of time; frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.

- Constant eye and hand coordination and manual dexterity to write, operate a computer keyboard and finely manipulate small objects.
- Constant ability to hear normal speech; frequent ability to hear and talk on the telephone and in person.
- Constant ability to make decisions and concentrate.
- Frequent exposure to computer noise.
