Overview

Saudi Aramco seeks a Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineer to work with the North Ghawar Engineering Division (NGED) under the North Ghawar Producing Department (NGPD).

The mission of NGPD is to meet the company's energy demand in a reliable, efficient and financially competitive manner while striving to the highest HSSE standards and capitalizing on latest IR 4.0 technologies.

The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, installing, and maintaining the department control systems platform and field instrumentation used to monitor and control NGPD facilities' processes and machinery.

The engineer will handle field troubleshooting activities to determine failure root causes for several types of plants control systems, such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Compressor Control System (CCS), Vibration Monitoring System (VMS), Emergency Shutdown System (ESD), SCADA, Plant Information system (PI), etc. He is also expected to have full knowledge and experience in analyzing and diagnosing control system practices as well as to provide technical support related to capital projects, plant processes, control systems performance, energy efficiency, safety, cost saving opportunities, innovation and new IR 4.0 technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will be expected to perform the following activities:

- Conduct engineering job evaluations for plant modifications proposals, as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Develop engineering design scopes and packages for corporate and department initiatives such as flare minimization, water conservation, crude quality recommendations, process optimization, in addition to supporting plant operations.
- Define/implement process control strategies.
- Perform control system design, configuration, and commissioning.
- Perform advanced process control strategies and design to optimize energy and sustain production.
- Support during major control systems maintenance and upgrade activities, providing professional level expertise to the solution of complex hardware problems.
- Perform Interface between systems using Modbus or OPC.
- Manage control and safeguarding systems lifecycle.
- Perform systems administration, backup, restoration, and disaster recovery.
- Train, mentor and develop young engineers.
- Identify, assess and implement new technologies to enhance process safety, reliability and efficiency.
- Conduct performance and compliance assessments to the plant control systems & instrumentation as well as to corporate Plant Network & Systems.
- Conduct and review major studies, such as Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Hazards and Operability (HAZOP) studies, as well as incident investigations.
- Perform and coordinate engineering studies.
- Provide engineering support for approved capital projects.
- Work closely with control systems and instrumentation vendors, as well as with consultation departments as needed.
- Conduct technical evaluations of control systems and instrumentation purchases.
- Maintain engineering drawings and marked-up PFD's, P&ID's, ILD's, and instrument specifications sheets.
- Assist and provide technical consultation to Plant Operation Engineers, Maintenance and Operation teams.
- Troubleshoot and investigate malfunctioning systems and provide recommendations to avoid reoccurrence.
- Perform engineering analysis of real time, process control digital systems in the department operations facilities to aid in fault diagnosis.
- Perform special assignments as directed, based on his engineering knowledge and experience.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements

As a successful candidate, he should hold a BS Engineering degree from a recognized and approved institution.

Minimum 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas industry operating facilities as Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineer.

Must has an extensive background in Process Control and Safeguarding Systems, and ideally, with field instrumentation.

Has experience in design and projects related to oil and gas processing plants.

Experience in associated disciplines involved in processes at oil and gas facilities.

Knowledge of good engineering practices, economic practices, calculation methods, design details, international and Saudi Aramco standards and specifications.

Extensive background of process control, process safeguarding, machine monitoring and protection, data networking and field instrumentation.

Knowledgeable of Yokogawa and ABB Distributed Control Systems.

Knowledgeable of Schneider Electric Triconex Emergency Shutdown Systems and Compressor Control Systems.

Knowledgeable of Baker Hughes (Bently Nevada) Vibration Monitoring Systems.

Knowledgeable of Yokogawa SCADA systems.

Must have Fundamental Engineering (FE) and recommended to have a Professional Engineer (PE).
