Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in GIS analysis specific TO data management. The position will entail projects that include database and form design, web and mobile GIS solutions and applications, and geospatial data management using ESRI ArcSDE/ArcGIS Server on a wide variety of environmental and engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Conduct GIS analysis and create map production for a wide variety of engineering and environmental projects
- Analyse, convert, or transfer data using GIS software
- Proactively evaluate optimal and efficient solutions to geospatial problems on projects
- Contribute to the design of databases or development of geodatabases and systems
- Communicate with internal and external clients on GIS needs
- Working cooperatively with project staff and clients
- Performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard scientific techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out tasks
- Translates and inputs existing data, including hard-copy maps, topographic maps, site plans, electronic maps, and GPS data into a common format
- Uses software to present map-based information
- Factors in differences in map projections and overlays information from different sources
- Organizes and presents tabular data supporting electronic map data
- Develops data sets and maps
- Assists in developing data formats
- Maintains computerized data
- Collection of field data using GPS
- Enters data into GIS databases using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning and georeferencing of images, automatic conversion to vectors and conversion of other sources of digital data
- Maintains or modifies existing GIS databases
- Reviews existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality or completeness of documentation and metadata
- Programs and applies a broad range of GIS database, and spreadsheet software for GIS design, mapping and analysis
- Independently contributes to the design of databases or development of geodatabases and systems, as well as compiles and analyses GIS data
- May evaluate commercial GIS applications, as well as design and develop GIS applications for internal use and for client deliverables

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Computer Science or related field
- Minimum four years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
- Fully understands how GIS data applies to decision-making
- Working knowledge of GPS hardware and software, and the integration of GPS data into GIS software
- General Knowledge of AutoCAD and Microstation
- May evaluate commercial GIS applications, as well as design and develop GIS applications for internal use and for client deliverables
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Access), Adobe InDesign, and GIS Internet Applications
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
