Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco's value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations' spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom's vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.
Overview

We are seeking a a Clastic Sedimentologist and Stratigrapher to join the Northern Area and Offshore Division of Gas Reservoir Characterization Department.

Northern Area & Offshore Division is responsible for providing core characterization, sequence stratigraphy, log integration and mapping. Ability to conduct detailed sedimentological and stratigraphic studies based on core characterization, integration of wireline logs, establish detailed sequence stratigraphic and depositional environment models and maps for clastic gas reservoirs. The job includes the integration of all available data (wireline logs, core data, SEM, XRD, biostratigraphy, etc.) to provide analysis of well data in terms of sedimentary architecture, facies and depositional environment to be ready as inputs to the 3D reservoir characterization models.

The Clastic Sedimentologist and Stratigrapher have to be competent in data integration with a solid geological background in sequence stratigraphy. This geological knowledge to aid and advance reservoir characterization of gas reservoirs. The candidate must also be well versed in using industry software application e.g., petrel, TechLog and Decision Space. The work will entail detailed 1-D core description and interpretation, 2-D facies and stratigraphic correlations, well data correlations, mapping of depositional facies, applying them in the construction of facies depositional models at field and regional scales; and using them as inputs to the static reservoir geological models. The candidate will be responsible to integrate different datasets, pick formation and reservoir tops, correlate reservoir internal layers and map them. Strong interpersonal skills are desirable since interdisciplinary collaboration is required with operations-oriented geoscientists, geophysicists, reservoir modellers, and structural geologists. An ability and willingness to mentor co-workers and young professionals in applying clastic sedimentology stratigraphy principles to widen the geological understanding of development fields is expected.

This position based in Dhahran offers a unique opportunity to work on different siliciclastic reservoirs. Saudi Aramco's position as a world-leading hydrocarbon explorer and producer provides geoscientists with unique opportunity to fulfil their full technical potential in this emerging subject.

Duties & Responsibilities

You will be required to perform the following:
- Conduct detailed clastic sedimentological studies based on core characterization, petrography, diagenesis and integration of wireline logs and to establish detailed sequence stratigraphic and depositional environment models and maps for clastic gas reservoirs.
- Log cores, construct integrated cross sections, interpret and map depositional facies, and build depositional models at field and regional scale.
- Draw conclusions, and make recommendations to support asset evaluations
- Integration of variable data types
- Effectively collaborating with other team members within a multidisciplinary group, which will include participation in well planning activities for designated areas in collaboration with the field geology team, geoscientists, and modeling in accordance with work procedures.
- Develop new technologies and workflows to improve reservoir characterization, reduce development, and improve work practice.
- Prepare/review reports.

Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements

As the successful candidate you will hold a Master's Degree in Earth Science (Geology-Clastic Sedimentology, Petroleum Geology).
- You will have fifteen years of industry experience in the field of clastic reservoir geology, stratigraphy, and reservoir characterization.
- Considerable prior practical skills and experience in clastic reservoir geology, reading wireline logs, defining geological observations and picking correlative stratigraphic units.
- A good understanding of the principles and application of biostratigraphy and chemo-stratigraphy.
- Sedimentology of siliciclastic rocks background is required.
- Previous experience in data integration for geological modeling purposes and the ability to use industry software (e.g., Petrel, TechLog, Decision Space) is required for this position.
- Ability and skills in working on different scales, field and regional scales is anticipated.
- Effectively develop project work and manage progress, through work in team environment is crucial.
- Prior experience in mentoring of junior geoscience professionals is highly advantageous.

Other desirable skills include:
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative micro scale analysis, including reservoir diagenesis modeling, and diagenetic influence on reservoir characteristics.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
