Overview

This newly created function will have an overall responsibility to advance the carbon emission and certification function for Aramco New Energy's business to produce and commercialize clean energy solutions. The role will be instrumental in shaping strategic plans and influence the successful carbon intensity mapping and modelling of clean hydrogen and its derivatives value-chains.

The function will advise best practices to adopt, that would enhance the carbon intensity program and for tracing greenhouse gas emissions across the hydrogen and ammonia value-chains. Additionally, the function will ensure adopting best-in-class capabilities and methodologies on carbon capture technologies to optimally position Aramco's products within various target markets and segments.

The role requires regular alignment with internal stakeholders including Armco New Energies departments with functions such as asset, technology and business development; as well corporates organization including Environmental Protection, Technology Oversight and others, to ensure a common understanding and consistent assessment of carbon management initiatives for the Hydrogen business. The role will provide expertise with technical insight to support the asset, business, industry and policy management teams. The role will be Aramco Hydrogen technical authority on the carbon assessment and management for its products, collaborating with best available resources when and as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Develop product life cycle analysis (LCA) with economic and cost benefit assessment
Establish carbon intensity (CI) internal standards with economic impact mechanisms
Develop the CI program strategies to optimize monitoring and assessment of CO2 emissions across the product value-chains
Track to understand existing, developing and anticipated regulatory changes, governing energy emissions, clean hydrogen with its derivatives and GHG reporting
Ensure understanding of various levers such as the carbon tax (CBAM, ETS etc.); carbon credit trading, including for voluntary market and offset programs
Engage and develop direct working relationships with relevant regulatory agencies including Saudi Ministry of Energy and other related authorities in the Kingdom as well as within relevant jurisdictions
Harmonize activities with Aramco New Energies and the corporate objectives related to decarbonization and sustainability
Mentor and develop junior engineers/ professionals, through knowledge transfer and other technical resources on capabilities to serve current and future business needs
Author and/ or contribute in developing publications and materials relevant to carbon intensity, certifications and related technical areas
Represent company interests at relevant local and international public engagements, conferences, tradeshows and workshops, specifically on technical matters related to clean hydrogen and ammonia business
Participate in technical engagement, taskforces, roundtables discussions with relevant Saudi related industry stakeholders.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Degree (advanced degrees such as MSc. or PhD. are preferred, but not required) in areas of environmental science, sustainability engineering, carbon management or in related fields
15 years of experience in environmental related roles preferably in the energy sectors, with exposure to emissions tracking, economic assement management and reporting mechanisms
Working knowledge in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction, sustainability, climate change, carbon management and related fields
Experience in, or have a good understanding of the Climate Action Initiatives and related to policies being adopted, standards and procedures including disclosures and reporting protocols
Relevant experience and knowledge of life-cycle analysis (LCA) standards and modelling
Life-cycle analysis certified practitioner (LCA AP) or equivalent certifications in related fields is strongly desired
Strong analytical quantitative and qualitative skills are critical and are required for this role
Must have excellent communication (written and verbal), presentation and interpersonal skills.
