Job Purpose
Provides engineering expertise in support of day to day field operations in areas encompassing instrumentation/control systems, electrical, process rotating equipment, and material/corrosion analysis. The engineering system field specialist has wide-ranging and specific knowledge of plant operation and process. Serves as technical advisor to management and junior operations engineering staff.
Responsibilities
A. Provides high level engineering expertise in the resolution of plant operational problems. May provide work direction to lower classified engineers.
B. Formulate and implement long-term strategies to improve operations and reduce costs. Defines the long-term technical direction of his assigned operating area.
C. Serve as an advisor to management on technical questions and issues.
D. Responsible for the definition and execution BI-1900 projects as assigned. Works with Facilities Planning department personnel to develop and define major capital budget items.
E. Provide technical direction in specialized areas to outside design contractors on major capital projects. Provides technical guidance for the development of capital projects.
F. Lead groups of engineers in the commissioning/start-up phase of complex projects and the mothballing/demothballing of existing plants.
G. Ensure that all designs comply with standards, are cost competitive, viable, and meet operational safety requirements. Review waiver requests for non-compliance design and construction issues and provide technical advice for satisfactory resolution.
H. Develop/provide technical direction, and act as mentor to junior engineers.
I. Participate in standards reviews to assure inclusion of requirements that are of practical benefit to field operation and maintenance in regard to safety and efficiency of the plants. Provides guidance on standards development through technical committee participation. Interprets standards and recommends changes to reduce costs associated with overly stringent requirements.
J. Plans and executes long range technical and operational studies.
Requirements:
Education & Experience Requirements
A. EDUCATION: B.S. in Engineering. MS or higher qualification is desirable.
B. EXPERIENCE: Fifteen (15) years relevant operations engineering experience.
C. OTHER: In-depth knowledge of company and international specifications, codes, and standards, with a knowledge of engineering practices and economic principles, calculation methods and design details.
Must be clearly recognized as an expert in his operations engineering field.
