Job description / Role

Responsibilities
• Removing collected material from stations and other areas for disposal;
• Transporting towed dumpsters to and from central compactor location;
• Handling, sorting, categorizing and disposal of a variety of materials;
• Monitoring waste locations to prevent overflow;
• Maintaining collection sites free of snow and ice;
• Monitoring compactor and scheduling equipment for regular service;
• Transporting bulk material to off-site locations when warranted;
• Coordinating external vendor sanitation when needed;
• Maintaining all tools and equipment used in the course of daily duties in good/clean operating condition;
• Safely handling and disposing of Hazardous Waste Materials;

• Collecting recyclable materials from office areas and residential areas;
• Sorting recycling materials into various categories as required by University guidelines;
• Communicating to appropriate personnel regarding the status of recycling efforts in the various residential communities;
• Cleaning & maintaining all recycling areas and bins;
• Representing housing on university wide recycling programs/initiatives.
• Adhering to established surplus property guidelines as outlined by housing department and the university;
• Removal and transportation of surplus/abandoned property items to proper disposal location;
• Coordinating service of all departmental fleet vehicles; on a regularly scheduled basis;
• Providing training and oversight of on call maintenance employees related to waste management;
• Observing proper safety precautions and procedures in all job functions.
• Adhering to established surplus property guidelines as outlined by housing department and the University;
• Removal and transportation of surplus/abandoned property items to proper disposal location;
• Coordinating service of all departmental fleet vehicles on a regularly scheduled basis;
• Providing training and oversight of on call maintenance employees related to waste management.

Special Requirements
Physical Requirements
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds
• Willing to work weekends and nights for special functions, on call, or emergency service
• Able to work in all weather conditions, in awkward positions, at various heights, indoors and outdoors

Requirements

Qualifications
• High School diploma/GED
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills
• Oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills
• Experience handling bulky waste
• Experience handling hazardous materials
• Previous experience with equipment and/or vehicle maintenance management
