Director of Catering

Job description / Role

Charterhouse is working with an international 5 star luxury hotel group. Our client is looking to hire a Director of Catering to work with senior teams to formulate plans and strategies to grow the business.

Your main responsibilities will be to select, train, supervise, develop, discipline and counsel associates in the Catering and Conference Services Department / Banquets. You will coordinate activities and direct the training of Catering Managers and Assistants engaged in preparing proposals, banquet event orders as well as meet and plan guides to ensure efficient and profitable catering functions.

In addition, you will coordinate specifics of the BEO and any special needs of the client with all department heads through pre-convention reports and meetings. You will oversee the convention and meals when in progress and act as a contact for the client answering questions and concerns. You will also organise post-convention meetings with clients to recap the event and discuss any concerns as well as communicate this information to the hotel department heads through a post-convention report. Moreover, you will be responsible for approving purchases and adjustments to banquet bills.

Requirements

The successful candidate should have previous experience in a 5 star hotel. You should have at least 5 years industry related experience along with relevant Middle East knowledge and experience. It is essential you have considerable knowledge of catering policies and procedures and a passion for service. You should enjoy taking care of others and be able to provide a friendly above and beyond service to your customer.

It is essential you have food and beverage, hotel and management experience. Basic knowledge of rooms division operations combined with a thorough knowledge of computer systems: i.e. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and electronic scheduling and e-mail systems are crucial for this role.

You should be a goal oriented, motivated, calm, helpful and positive professional with the ability to multi-task, follow through and re-prioritise to meet deadlines. It is vital you are able to read, write and communicate effectively with others as well as develop effective working relationships with fellow associates, managers, outside representatives, agencies and guests. You should also have the ability to deal professionally, courteously and tactfully with co-workers and the public.
