Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The ESG Specialist will be responsible for supporting the ESG team with implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and promoting sustainable and responsible practices aligned with UAE's regulations, cultural values, and global ESG standards. The ESG Specialist will collaborate with ALEC’s central services teams, project teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders to integrate ESG considerations into operations, ultimately contributing to the UAE's sustainable development goals. This role at ALEC is pivotal to drive sustainability efforts and contribute to the country's vision for a more sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally responsible future.

ESG/ Sustainability Reporting and Disclosures:
• Collect and review ESG/ Sustainability data to create internal dashboards and content for internal and external ESG reports and disclosures for internal and external stakeholders, in alignment with local reporting guidelines

Sustainability projects execution:
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and support ESG team to execute sustainability projects across operations and projects
• Get regular feedback from the business on the ESG/ Sustainability initiatives, share and review this feedback with the ESG lead and amend any initiatives when needed C
• Assist in other key duties as required by the Line Manager or Management Team
• Establish systematic data collection and analysis strategies to track the return on impact of sustainability initiatives through the measurement of Key performance indicators
• Ensure to effectively communicate to the business on all planned sustainability initiatives while maintaining accurate records of all initiatives

ESG/ Sustainability benchmarking & communication:
• Research and update ESG/ Sustainability benchmarking templates and create ESG & carbon literacy training decks for internal stakeholders and subcontractors on sites
• Create content for internal newsletters, internal portals and training sessions

Sustainability training:
• Oversee the process and implementation of the technical, departmental trainings on sustainability/ ESG/ carbon emission calculations
Stakeholder Engagement & Community Impact:
• Engage with local communities, NGOs, governmental organizations, and industry associations, and support the execution of Community Impact projects, data collection, impact measurement and reporting

ESG performance evaluation:
• Collaborate with project teams and procurement teams to evaluate projects’ and suppliers' sustainability practices, ESG dashboards and encourage the adoption of environmentally and socially responsible materials and services

Evaluating sustainable materials and technologies:
• Identify and promote the use of sustainable construction materials and work with innovation team on calculating carbon emission and ESG impact of piloting innovative technologies that can reduce environmental impact, enhance energy efficiency, and contribute to resource conservation

Requirement:
• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a relevant field (eg, environmental sciences/studies, engineering, design, or construction)
• More than 3 years’ experience within the corporate sustainability field
• Considerable knowledge and experience in ESG reporting frameworks Including defining, implementing, monitoring and quality assurance of sustainability KPIs, using international standards
• Understanding of ESG principles, regional sustainability challenges, and their application to the UAE's construction sector
• Deep understanding of the global, regional, and local ESG/Sustainability and Decarbonization standards for example but not limited to GRI, SASB, LEED, TCFD, etc
• Arabic written and verbal skills would be a plus
• Experience with MS Excel is highly desirable
