Head of Legal and Compliance - Investment Fund

Job description / Role

As Head of Legal and Compliance you will play a critical role in ensuring that our firm operates within the boundaries of applicable laws and regulations while also providing strategic legal counsel to support our investment activities.

Leading fund based in Abu Dhabi, specialising in various asset classes and investment strategies.

Description

• Lead the legal and compliance function of the fund, overseeing all legal matters and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Provide expert guidance and advice on legal and regulatory issues impacting the firm's operations and investment activities.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Review and negotiate legal agreements, contracts, and transactions, including high yield investments and other complex financial instruments.
• Work closely with investment teams to assess legal risks associated with various investment opportunities and provide recommendations to mitigate such risks.
• Represent the firm in interactions with regulatory authorities, auditors, and external legal counsel.
• Advise and support the investment committees on legal and compliance matters, including presenting recommendations and providing insights on potential legal implications of investment decisions.
• Stay abreast of developments in laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the investment fund industry, and ensure that the firm's policies and practices remain up-to-date and in compliance.
• Lead and mentor a team of legal and compliance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability within the department.

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years of post-qualification experience, with a strong background in leading the legal function of a buy-side financial institution.
• Previous experience working in a top-tier international law firm is highly desirable.
• Extensive experience advising on high yield investments and other complex financial transactions.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing investment funds and financial services in Abu Dhabi and internationally.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team of legal and compliance professionals.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact confidently with senior executives, investment committees, and external stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
