IT Hardware and Networking Specialist/Engineer/Technician

Job description / Role

Responsibilities: Network Design and Implementation:
• Design, implement, and manage computer networks, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability.
• Configure routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices to support organizational requirements.

Hardware Installation and Maintenance:
• Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware components, including servers, workstations, routers, switches, and peripheral devices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues promptly.

Network Security:
• Implement and maintain security measures to protect the organization's networks and systems.
• Monitor network traffic for potential security threats and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.

Troubleshooting and Technical Support:

• Provide technical support to end-users and resolve hardware and networking issues.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, hardware, and software problems and implement solutions.

System Upgrades and Maintenance:

• Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and updates to ensure the security and efficiency of the network infrastructure.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks to keep hardware and network systems in optimal condition.

Documentation:
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Update documentation to reflect changes in the network environment.

Collaboration:
• Work closely with other IT professionals, including system administrators, software developers, and cybersecurity experts, to ensure seamless integration of hardware and network components.

Monitoring and Performance Optimization:
• Monitor network performance and proactively identify and address issues to ensure optimal operation.
• Implement strategies to optimize network efficiency and speed.

Requirements

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+) may be required or preferred.

Experience:
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing computer networks.
• Hands-on experience with hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in networking protocols, routing, and switching.
• Strong knowledge of hardware components and configurations.
• Familiarity with network security principles and best practices.

Communication Skills:
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with end-users and collaborate with other IT professionals.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
