Kitchen Technician

Job description / Role

The Kitchen Technician will manage and repair all LPG/Electric supplied kitchen appliances, refrigeration equipment, including cold rooms and walk in freezers.

Hotel Overview:

Ideally situated on the Arabian Gulf in Ajman, UAE, the Fairmont Ajman has opened May 2015. The hotel close proximity to both Sharjah and Dubai airports. The hotel features 252 guestrooms and suites, including two luxurious penthouse offerings, a multitude of dining options and fitness facilities. The beachfront location offers guests a wide range of leisure activities including water sports and diving as well as access to shopping and cultural excursions. Event planners can take advantage of 2,000 square meters of indoor function space as well as outdoor facilities.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Engineering Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
• Ensures all work follows safe work practices and fire procedures
• Responds immediately to all work requests which concern Health and Safety
• Ensures environmentally friendly practices are followed when handling chemicals and refrigerants
• Responds to guest requests promptly in a professional and courteous manner
• Maintains and repairs all kitchen equipment and related appliances
• Ensures the optimum performance of all kitchen equipment by effectively following the preventive maintenance and the shift readings programs
• Evaluates and appropriately responds to equipment usage and energy efficiency
• Completes all work orders with due diligence
• Maintains a daily log book highlighting problems and solutions; and activities
• Maintain all kitchen shop drawings
• Maintain equipment catalog and tagging directories
• Actively participates in the monthly departmental meeting by providing feedback and offering suggestions for improvement
• Maintains health and safety documentation and records for the assigned area
• Reports and documents potential safety hazards
• Participates as directed in the emergency response team

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Previous experience is an asset
• Minimum High School graduate with a related technical or trade certification
• Minimum 2 years experience as a service technician in hospitality industry
• Proficient in appliance and refrigeration repair and maintenance plus basic knowledge of one other building operations skill set
• The ability to use all general repair tools, read shop drawings and specifications and make rough estimates of required materials
• Good communication skills
• Physical ability to perform the assigned duties
• Experience Working in the UAE is an asset
• Must be a self-starter, who can work independently and will take initiative
• Must be creative, practical and have a pro-active approach to problem solving

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

• Constant standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs
• Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
