Maritime Legal Advisor

Job description / Role

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Marine Legal Consultant with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support and advice to ensure our maritime operations comply with international and domestic laws and regulations. This role plays a critical part in risk management, dispute resolution, and compliance within the maritime sector.

Key Responsibilities:

• Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of general and maritime matters, including international maritime law, contracts, regulatory compliance, environmental regulations, and more.
• Risk Management: Assess, manage, and mitigate legal risks associated with vessel operations, cargo transportation, crew management, and other maritime activities.
• Contract Review: Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts, including charter party agreements, vessel management contracts, and legal agreements with clients and third-party service providers.
• Dispute Resolution: Represent the company in legal disputes, including arbitration, litigation, and other legal proceedings. Work closely with external legal counsel when necessary.
• Compliance: Ensure that all operations and activities are in full compliance with relevant international and domestic maritime laws and regulations.
• Regulatory Updates: Stay up-to-date with changes in maritime laws and regulations, and communicate these updates to the management team, making necessary adjustments to company practices.
• Documentation and Records: Maintain accurate legal records, contracts, and documentation related to maritime activities.

Salary:
AED 25,000 to 30,000 per month inclusive of fixed allowances.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Law; a Master's degree or specialization in maritime law is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal consultant specializing in UAE and international maritime law.
• Strong knowledge of international and domestic maritime laws and regulations.
• Proven experience in contract negotiation and dispute resolution within the maritime industry.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Membership in relevant professional organizations or associations is preferred.
• Maritime experience is mandatory
