Employment: Full Time

Job Purpose

Provide project support to the project teams and to support stream leads and project managers with the creation and maintenance of plans and project schedules. The Planner sets out monitors, maintains and updates the project plan/programme in coordination with all stakeholders of the project.

Principal Accountabilities

Directs and coordinates the current and long range planning and budget process and makes recommendations to the project director.
Selecting the appropriate techniques and sequence of events for a particular project.
Monitoring progress throughout the construction process and comparing this with the projected schedule of work.
Liaising with the site agent and surveyor throughout the process, making adjustments to projects as necessary.
Direct, controls and administers the efficient operation of the total Engineering and Public Works function including the planning, construction and maintenance of streets, sewers, water mains, and wastewater treatment plants in accordance with good Engineering practices.
Develop detailed task lists and work effort assessment and short and long-term resource allocation plans based on input from all key players and team members (writers, editors, graphics, and production) and document these details using tools such as work breakdown structures or outlines.
Develop communication plans with the project team. Proactively assess and analyze with the team, any risks and issues that may compromise project team performance and results and develop plans to remove or mitigate them. Maintain risk and issue logs.
Monitor schedules, issue logs and risk management plans and provide warnings of serious deviations or variations that may compromise project results.
Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess, renegotiate and amend scope of work responsibilities, proposals, contracts, and budgets.
Act as liaison between all parties concerned to address proposed modifications to project scope, schedule, or budget and influence to minimize changes. Work with functional managers to resolve schedule and resource conflicts. Escalate difficult project issues as appropriate. Arrange and maintain relevant outsourcing relationships, maintain records of expenses and track milestones and/or percent complete for contracted work.
Ensure required project data and information is regularly entered into the project workbook and the project management and knowledge management systems. Generate and issue regular internal and external project reports for medium to large projects managed. Assist with the collection of clear, consistent, standard data for each project in the portfolio to support a regular portfolio report. Business development and stakeholder relationship management: Participate in meetings with potential and existing clients to discuss new business opportunities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION:
The Senior Planner must have a Construction related HNC/Degree

EXPERIENCE:
Hands-on experience in planning of project's total procurement process (Design and construction stages) with good manpower planning skills, excellent report writing skills and tender analysis & review skills.
Experienced gained in preparation of contract letters, compensation events, claims, letting of contracts.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge and experience of New Engineering Contracts
