Job Description
The Department of Pediatrics at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is announcing a position of a research assistant in the field of immunology and molecular biology. The overall goal of the research is to evaluate the efficacy of targeting the mTOR pathway in jSpA patients using different mTOR inhibitor metformin, in comparison to potential synergistic effects of either tofacitinib (JAK kinase inhibitor) or ixekizumab (IL17A inhibitor). Our innovative, ex vivo approach of studying effects of metformin and tofacitinib or ixekizumab, on various cell subpopulations in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PMBC's) and synovial fluid (SF) cultures and co-cultures, cytokines and growth factors, might allow us to determine role of potential biomarkers in the pathophysiology of jSpA development, and directly translate results into clinical practice.
Tasks to accomplish
Prepare compounds or chemicals needed; Collect samples from hospitals: collect data from procedures. Analyze data from scientific procedures; perform calculations; create graphic displays of data analysis. Enter data into computerized system; maintain and update files and databases. Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Minimum Qualification
MSc Preferred Qualification. MSc/Ph.D. Expected
Skills/Rank/Experience
Proficient in immunology and molecular biology techniques. Experience of flow cytometry, ELISA, cell culture, RTPCR Knowledge of advanced principles, and procedures of molecular biology Knowledge of computer and word processing/database/spreadsheet software. Strong written and communication skills. Maintain accurate records regarding events, outcomes, and the associated data. Troubleshoot complex experimental problems. Basic knowledge of RNA seq and or proteomics is a plus.
