The Role

The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for building the continuous monitoring and exception reporting capabilities of the internal audit function as well as working with the relevant internal audit team members to define and generate the best-needed analytics for the planned audits.

What you'll be doing

Data Analytics for Internal Audit:

- Support the Internal Audit team in analytical report design and extraction for all planned and ad-hoc engagements as needed (including script building).
- Identify and acquire the necessary data from relevant systems to develop the needed data analytics.
- Work with Internal Audit team members, second lines of defence and IT, to outline data requirements, and obtain the necessary access to acquire data.
- Support data requests from the Internal Audit team. Activities may include extracting and downloading data, organizing the data, data scrubbing and performing analyses including thorough documentation of the steps performed.
- Design test scripts to generate analytical reports in line with the audit team's requirements, and present results effectively to support both the audit team and management in interpreting results.
- Apply professional scepticism when assessing data sources and validate the completeness and accuracy of the received data.
- Perform ad-hoc analytics requests as required for special reviews and investigations.

Data analytics capability building:

- Conduct a current state assessment of available data analytics capabilities across the organization and develop a plan to establish synergies with the first and second lines of defence for exception and continuous monitoring reports.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for the Internal Audit department to strengthen the data analytics capability, which may include implementation of a data analytics tool, integration with visualisation tools etc.
- Champion the data analytics tool and continuously improve the tool's effectiveness and usability.
- Identify ways to optimize the data analytics tool and data extraction methods to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit team.
- Periodically train the audit team and business users on the DA tool, where needed.
- Work closely with the Internal Audit team and key management stakeholders in understanding the operating environment across the group and define key exception reports and continuous monitoring methods to ensure real-time reporting.
- Work closely with first and second lines of defence in the business to ensure that exception and continuous monitoring reports are aligned and establish a combined assurance process.

Requirements

What you'll need to succeed:

- You possess 3 to 5 years of experience in the design and application of advanced data analytics techniques, including 3 or more years of experience working with internal audit teams.
- You have experience working with data analytics tools for audits (e.g. Arbutus analyser, IDEA, ACL).
- You are familiar with data visualization tools (ie.g Tableau, Power BI).
- You preferably have prior financial, and operational audit experience.
- You have a strong knowledge of internal controls.
- You possess a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work jointly with the Audit team and across the business.
