Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Scope of Work:

To provide geotechnical engineering designs in support of tender preparation and post project award designs for all types of piling works, earth retaining walls (secant & diaphragm) and ground anchors.

Ability to client interface to defend the designs and to obtain the final approval of the authorities. Ability to work independently and to liaise with head office on all technical matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Be familiar with the geology of the Arabian Peninsula and the associated soil properties and behaviour.
• Ability to analyse soil investigation reports & obtain a thorough understanding of the soil geology and topography.
• Be familiar with the design requirements of Abu Dhabi & Dubai Municipalities and the different requirements of other government authorities insofar as the design approvals are concerned.
• Design of rotary bored piles in sands and soft rocks encountered in the region and assess the expected pile behaviour under load.
• Back-analysis of pile load test results and compare to the anticipated behaviour at design stage and compare reasons for variation.
• Experience in the various construction techniques of rotary bored piles under water, bentonite & polymer and with instrumented CFA piles.
• Ability to design piled raft foundations and a thorough understanding of soil/structure interaction and pile group designs.
• Design of all types of earth retaining structures such as but not limited to secant piled walls, contiguous piled walls & diaphragm walls using the appropriate soil model extracted from the soil investigation report as well as the appropriate choice of soil failure criteria (Mohr-Coulomb or Hardening Soil model etc.)
• Proficient user of Plaxis 2D, Wallap & FREW. Ability to setup the programmes to optimise the designs.
• Analyse soil investigation reports & obtain a thorough understanding of the soil geology and topography.
• Collaborate with geotechnical, drafting, and other engineering teams to ensure qualitative and quantitative risk and design assessment and the production of information to a high standard.
• Must be capable of mentoring less experienced geotechnical engineers in order to promote a fully functional team.
• Provide detailed studies for tendered projects in order to obtain excellent, safe, and well researched, geotechnical and structural designs.
• Collaborate with technical team to execute value engineering studies and analysis in order to provide price optimisation.
• Implement and promote local and international standards, where appropriate, to ensure company compliance in these areas at all times
• Maintain all relevant files coherently and regularly to ensure availability and organisation of information.
• Attend meetings, where required, in order to discuss geotechnical design issues and contribute to design approval.
• Visit sites to contribute to the geotechnical assessment of a given project.
• Liaise with consulting engineers, clients and government authorities in order to get their approval on the design reports.

Requirements

Education:
Master’s Degree in Soil Mechanics from a renowned European/US University

Functional Competencies:
Able to work in a collaborative environment with other team members and designers under pressure of time & delivery. Good analytical skills and thorough understanding of geotechnical

Professional Experience:
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering design

Language:
• Excellent verbal and written English is a must
• Arabic is an advantage

Computer Skills:
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office utilities and current and established geotechnical programs (ReWard, Cemset/Cemsolve, SLOPE, FREW, ALP, Plaxis 2D, AdSec, Deep EXAV 2017, AutoCAD).
• Use of MathCad is advantageous

Interpersonal Skills:
• Excellent report writing and analytical skills
• Good communication up to and including a multicultural level
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
