Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Working within a University and reporting to the GC, you will be responsible for providing high-level legal advice and services to the university through the Legal Affairs Department; covering a broad range of legal and corporate issues in order to maximize the quality of decision making and mitigate legal risks for the University. We are particularly interested in candidates with good working experience in business set up/M&A in the UAE.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of the Department's strategy, as well as annual business plans, policies and promote best practice
• Provide sound, relevant, and up-to-date legal support and advice to the University management on relevant legal issues.
• Ensure compliance with the internal controls, statutory regulations and other formalities
• Handle litigation, keeping up with current changes on all relevant areas of laws.
• Ensure the University is aware of the appropriate policies and procedures related to University activities and operates within the defined legal governance framework
• Ensure that the University is in compliance with UAE Law and any other applicable international laws to mitigate any risk of legal action against the University
• Provide legal opinions on matters raised and prepare memos with opinions in response
• Provide advice and consultation on the University’s policies and procedures
• Manage and prepare related national and international agreements, Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) and templates relating to the University
• Maintain and archive a signed copy of all contracts and agreements (including amendments, addendum)
• Support and manage external counsel of the University as required
• Provide legal opinions on all complaints raised against the University in coordination with the relevant departments.
• Ensure adherence to the University's information security policies and procedures, and report
• Ensure coordination with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by Line Manager

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited college or university, ideally LLM or other relevant qualification
• Relevant experience in a commercial corporate environment, in areas such as business set up, contracts, M&A
