Employment: Full Time

Wood is currently looking for a Senior Materials Engineer/Fracture Mechanics to be based at our office in Abu Dhabi.

- Hydrogen and CO2 Pipeline Fracture Mechanics:
- Conduct specialized fracture mechanics analyses tailored to the unique properties and challenges associated with both hydrogen and CO2 transport pipelines.
- Develop predictive models for crack initiation and propagation in pipeline materials under varying operating conditions.
- Material Compatibility and Code Adherence:
- Investigate the compatibility of materials with hydrogen and CO2, ensuring alignment with industry codes and standards such as ASME B31.12, ASME Pressure Vessels code, API579, and DNV RP F104 for CO2 pipelines.
- Contribute to the selection of materials that ensure the integrity and safety of both hydrogen and CO2 pipelines, adhering to applicable codes and standards.
- Experimental Testing for Hydrogen and CO2 Environments:
- Design and oversee experimental tests specifically focused on pipeline materials for hydrogen and CO2 transport, encompassing fatigue, fracture toughness, and environmental degradation studies.
- Ensure that all testing protocols adhere to industry standards and regulations for both hydrogen and CO2 pipelines.
- Failure Analysis in Hydrogen and CO2 Environments:
- Lead investigations into failures related to pipeline materials for both hydrogen and CO2 transport.
- Provide comprehensive reports on failure modes, root cause analysis, and recommend preventive measures in accordance with industry codes and standards.
- Innovation in Pipeline Technology:
- Stay updated on the latest developments in pipeline technology for both hydrogen and CO2 transport and contribute to the advancement of innovative solutions.
- Participate in the development and updating of internal procedures to meet or exceed industry codes and standards for both hydrogen and CO2 pipelines, including DNV RP F104.

Requirements

- Postgraduate in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in fracture mechanics and hydrogen and CO2 pipeline materials with minimum 7 years of experience.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools for modeling and simulation in hydrogen and CO2 environments.
- Strong understanding of material compatibility with hydrogen and CO2 and related degradation mechanisms.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as ASME B31.12, ASME Pressure Vessels code, API579, and DNV RP F104 for CO2 pipelines.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- A solid background in fracture mechanics, a specialization in hydrogen and CO2 pipeline, and a strong familiarity with industry codes and standards, including DNV RP F104.
