Senior Specialist, Carbon Markets

Job description / Role

JOB PURPOSE :

Lead the development of:
- A long-term outlook for carbon markets and pricing until 2050
- Short-term analysis of carbon markets in specific regions and countries
- Quantification of regulations and legal considerations for upcoming International carbon market related legislation
- Macroeconomic analysis of global economies and industries affected by carbon market regulation
- Research key assumptions to be used in project evaluation, including assessments of country risk, and supply, demand and price forecasts
- Business Intelligence of peers and other related energy corporation strategy and plans
In addition, lead ad-hoc projects to address strategic issues raised by senior management.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Job Specific Accountabilities

Corporate Strategy
- Develop and implement research methods to ensure robust analysis of the macro-economy related to carbon markets.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of the Low Carbon vision as it relates to the long-term strategy of ADNOC.
- Contribute to the overall process of corporate governance, management and corporate decision making to ensure the organization maximizes returns to its shareholders.
- Provide input to corporate investment guidelines.

Macroeconomics and macro-energy
- Design and lead research projects utilising primary and secondary data sources in support of ADNOC's strategic goals.
- Track key macroeconomic and industry trends, advise on international trade and other macroeconomic issues, as well as developments in the carbon management sector.
- Maintain relationships with international bodies from which insights may be gained,and enhance relationships with relevant national bodies.
- Support Specialists in Economics to develop and maintain data systems to collect and store macroeconomic and macro-energy data.
- Under the guidance of the BD Manager, support (where necessary) the development of a global outlook to 2050
- Provide in-depth analysis of the specific country carbon economies
- Provide sectoral analysis of key economies - both short and long-term, to help inform the long-term energy outlook.
- Support the development of long-term scenarios to be used in strategy and corporate business planning.
- Lead on 'rapid response' analysis of short-term carbon market developments.
- Lead the development of key assumptions to be used in project evaluation, including assessments of country risk, and supply, demand and price forecasts for upstream and downstream products.
- Collaborate with other research groups across ADNOC to ensure consistency and robustness of ADNOC's market analysis.
- Ad-Hoc analysis on additional Carbon Market verticals including technology and nature based solutions

Research and Development
- Perform research work in economics, ranging from theoretical methodical issues to applied economics and finance covering the oil and gas industry and ADNOC Group, in particular.

Any Other Key Accountabilities
- Perform any other key initiatives / projects activities specifically related to the mandate of the ADNOC Group CEO, the Government of Abu Dhabi and the UAE Government.
- Work with Group Communications to develop messages for CEO's presentations and speeches.

- Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective business objectives.

Budgets
- Provide input for preparation of the Function / Division / Department / Section budgets, assist in the implementation of the approved Budget, and work plans to deliver business objectives.
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Implement approved Function/ Division/ Department/ Section policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures in order to support execution of the work programs in line with Company and International standards.

Performance Management
- Contribute to the achievement of the approved Performance Objectives for the Function/ Division / Department/ Section in line with the Company Performance framework.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with best industry standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
- Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, applicable legislation, and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.

Reports
- Provide inputs to prepare MIS and progress reports for Company Management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in B usiness Administration, Economics or Engineering disciplines.

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
- At least 10 years' experience in carbon markets (compliance & voluntary) research and analysis and economic analysis, including at least 3 years in economist advisory role.
- Experience in the Low Carbon and Sustainability industry is required (Life Cycle assessment, certification for low carbon products, reporting, etc).
- Track record of presentations related to carbon energy markets including a good understanding on engineered carbon removal markets
- Professional Certifications
- Master's degree is preferred.
