Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

JOB PURPOSE :

Manage and provides expertise and engineering support on integrity and maintainability of corrosion and metallurgy systems, manage the development and consistent application of ADNOC standards, specifications, policies, guidelines and procedures for the corrosion and Metallurgy to meet the company's objective.

Reviews the metallurgy of the equipment and piping of units during the project phases (Assess, Select, Define & Execute) and makes recommendations for upgrading. Reviews the operating conditions to assess and monitor corrosive conditions and evaluates the material performance in corrosive streams.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Job Specific Accountabilities

Corrosion Research & Testing:
- Overseas all the material and corrosion testing, investigation and research studies, to support activities within the section, and for the refineries and makes necessary diagnosis, and provides conclusions, and recommendations.
- Approval of any new technology in the field of materials and corrosion monitoring, and oversight of field trials.
- Approval of qualification of chemicals used for corrosion mitigation, and oversight of field trials.

Corrosion Monitoring & Control:
- Defines and organizes corrosion monitoring, and evaluates corrosion control measures for the equipment, storage tanks and pipelines and prepares necessary reports with suitable recommendations.

Cathodic Protection:
- Oversees the review of the performance of the existing cathodic protection systems design and the design of any new CP system, as and when required, highlights problems and suggests improvements.

Coatings :
- Approval of new Coating systems
- Review of Coating refurbishment plans

Specifications:
- Reviews as necessary projects specifications for corrosion monitoring, corrosion control, material and quality assurance aspects.
- Writes or oversees the write up of new refinery specifications in the field of materials and corrosion.
- Representative of refinery in the ADNOC committee responsible for writing / updating ADNOC specifications in the field of materials and corrosion.

Failure Analysis:
- Reviews failure investigation reports, laboratory reports, with focus on materials performance and the corrosion observations and analyses the same, validating them and proposing any necessary recommendations.

Corrosion Monitoring Tools:
- Reviews the existing corrosion monitoring tools and advise upgrading as required.
- Proposes the implementation of new corrosion monitoring.
- Oversees the trial of any new technologies

Metallography:
- Defines the SOW of metallographic characterization of materials, proposing appropriate techniques, oversees laboratory or field metallographic characterization of materials, evaluates microstructural condition and validates issued reports.

Corrosion Studies:
- Carries our thorough and detailed review of refineries units when required to define the corrosion loops and initiates detailed study to meet the requirements of Risk Based Inspections .

Integrity
- Seats on the annual integrity review meeting and is given opportunity to review the annual integrity report, cascades the materials and corrosion related recommendations of the annual integrity report and overseas their respective implementation.

Generic Accountabilities

Supervision
- Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.

Budgets
- Provide input for preparation of the Department's budget and assist in the implementation of the approved Budget and work plans to deliver Section objectives
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Implement approved Section / Department policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures in order to support execution of the Section's / Department work programs in line with Company and International standards.

Performance Management
- Contribute to the achievement of the approved Performance Objectives for the Section / Department in line with the Company Performance framework.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
- Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices

Reports
- Provide inputs to prepare Section MIS and progress reports for Company Management

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor Degree in in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with qualification in corrosion engineering.

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
- 8/9 years' experience in process and utilities of Petroleum Refineries. Chemical Process plants, Petrochemical plants of which 5 years as specialist in Corrosion Engineering preferably at R&D centre.
