Job description / Role
This role is to take a lead role in managing the structural engineering section, the delivery of design work on time and within budgets, providing site back up on structural engineering matters, keeping a watching brief on the site supervision staff and coaching junior member of the design team.
The candidate must have good leadership and excellent inter-personal skills capable of communicating effectively with other members of the project team. He should also possess hands-on experience in modern methods of structural engineering design (in particular high rise buildings), a good knowledge of designing in all materials (Reinforced concrete, structural steelwork and masonry) and current codes of practice, and a varied site experience to be able to deal with all site matters.
Core Functions:
- Leading structural design engineering section on projects as required; undertaking concept and detailed engineering design of a wide variety of buildings.
- Ability to accept a high degree of responsibility in a team-based organization, combined with ability to work independently
- Ideally experience of finite element analysis software, knowledge and use of RAM, ETAB's, Rhino etc
- Delivering excellent project work within agreed deadlines and within budget.
- Agree and monitor scope of works.
- Ensuring appropriate service/design decisions are met, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery.
- Review and monitor the production of design calculations including QA, technical reviews and sign off.
- Gain an appreciation of sustainability and EMS issues and incorporate requirements into project delivery.
- Provide specifications and detailed design drawings to assist in the preparation of tender documents, ensuring that information for tender preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadline.
- Coordinate with Authorities Liaison with regard to obtaining approvals from the Statutory Authorities
- Assist the Resident Engineers in setting up structural engineering site teams for all projects
- Dealing with any design issues arising from sites
- Keeping a watching brief on sites with regard to structural engineering site matters.
Requirements
- Degree Educated in BEng or similar
- Minimum of 10-15 years relevant experience
- Relevant UAE experience (min 3 years)
