Turner - Machinist

Job description / Role

JOB PURPOSE:
Carry out skilled machine shop work to refurbish or manufacture shafts, gears couplings bushes and other small parts and tools.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Job Specific Accountabilities

Operational
• Operate lathes and a variety of other machine tools to manufacture, refurbish and repair machinery parts or equipment by fabrication.
• Operate special gap-led lathes, boring, drilling, ruling, shaping and grinding machines to manufacture gears, couplings, wearing, valve bushing nuts, bolts, plugs, washers and other miscellaneous parts.
• Review drawings and sketches to obtain requirements, and use callipers and micrometres to measure tolerances.
• Manufacture sleeves and shafts and repair flange blinds as necessary preparation and maintaining of machining tools to the required shapes and sharps by proper grinding.
• Assess work requirements in terms of time estimates, materials and special equipment to obtain required items and carries out assigned job.
• Carry out minor modifications or repairs to machine shop equipment such as rolling machines, welding machines/sets and checks alignments and run out of lather shafts, to ensure that all machinery operate efficiently.
• Check completed work and verify gaps, using callipers and other sensitive measurement tools to ensure completed work meet the requirements.
• Maintain and control consumables and spares for workshop machines to ensure availability.

• Implement and comply with all relevant functional policies, processes, systems, standards, procedures, to accomplish operational objectives.

Training
• Provide on-the-job Training to meet Competency Based Training programs for UAE Nationalization.

Tool Box
• Maintain all tools, safety gear and equipment provided by company safely and in working condition.
• Arrange for repair or replacement of any tools and safety gear that may not be in good working condition.

Time Management
• Carry out all maintenance jobs in line with assigned time standards.
• Inform the Maintenance Supervisor in case additional resources are required to carry out the job within the assigned time frame.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement
• Contribute to the identification of areas and opportunities for continuous improvement in the operating procedures, modification of functional processes, machinery or equipment.

Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
• Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards.
• Participate in Emergency Response duties as a team member.

Housekeeping
• Maintain the work environment clean and tidy before, during and after executing the job, in line with established standards of Hygiene and Housekeeping.

Reports
• Collect technical data from the field as required and provide inputs to prepare Section progress reports for Company Management.
• Provide input for the preparation of Method statements and initiate Near Miss reports.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification
• Diploma or Secondary School Certificate

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
• 4 years of experience, in machine shop work with experience in the operation of various machine tools working to fine tolerance.
